Izard County Wins 1 of 3 Izard County Tourney Finals

The Izard County Lady Cougars defeated the Melbourne Lady Bearkatz , 55-32, to win the Izard County Invitational Tournament at Calico Rock, 55-32, on  January 28.  The Lady Cougars, ranked No. 5 in the Class 1A by the Arkansas-Democrat-Gazette, were led by Sam King with 18 points and Kennedy Cooper with 17 points. Jen King and Harley Thomason added seven points each and Natalie Everett six points for the Lady Cougars. The Lady Cougars improved to 25-5 on the season.

The Izard County Cougars couldn't hold off the Cave City Cavemen in the second half and lost, 53-48 in the finals of the Izard County Invitational Tournament.  The Cougars ( 25-9), ranked No. 6 in Class 1A, and Cave City (20-2), ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, took the game down to the wire when Izard County's Taylor Reynolds drained a trey with 18 seconds to go to get the Cougars within one, 49-48.  The Cavemen, though, hit their free throws in the closing second to close out the win.  
The Cougars were led by Dallas Farmer with 17 points, Taylor Reynolds with 14, and Justus Cooper with 10.  Tanner Brooks added seven points for the Cougars.The Cougars led 17-9 after one quarter, and 32-21 at the half, and the Cavemen led 42-38 after three quarters.     

The Junior Cougars finished runner-up to the Mammoth Spring Junior Bears, 33-29.  The Cougars (16-5) were led by Caleb Faulkner with 13 points.  Gunner Gleghorn added 6, Coby Everett 5, Chase Orf 3, and Noah Everett 2 points.  

The Lady Cougars advanced to the finals by defeating the Calico Rock Lady Pirates, 76-44, on January 25.  The Lady Cougars were led by Kennedy Cooper with 29 points.  The Cougars advanced to the finals by defeating the Melbourne Bearkatz, 68-55, on January 26.  The Cougars were led by Justus Cooper with 23 points.  The Junior Cougars advanced to the finals by defeating the Melbourne Junior Bearkatz, 40-33.  The Junior Cougars were led by Noah Everett with 14 points.
