Guidelines for the Izard County Alternative Learning School
Eligibility Criteria:
This program is available to 7-12 grade students who meet the following criteria:
1) Enrolled in the Izard County School District
2) At-risk students identified by two or more of the following characteristics:
1) Ongoing, persistent lack of attaining proficiency levels in literacy and
mathematics
2) Abuse: physical, mental, or sexual
3) Frequent relocation of residency
4) Homelessness
5) Inadequate emotional support
6) Mental/Physical support
7) Pregnancy; or
8) Single parenting
9) Personal or family problems or situations
10) Recurring absenteeism
11) Dropping out from school; or
12) Disruptive behavior
STAFFING:
One teacher certified in special education is on staff presently to supervise and direct the program. A paraprofessional is assigned to the alternative school full-time. Regular classroom teachers will work closely with the alternative school instructor to provide the best education for the Alternative School students.
RESOURCES:
Students assigned to the Izard County Alternative School shall have access to the following resources and services of the I.C.C. School District: health services, free or reduced lunch, counseling services and transportation.
EDUCATIONAL PLAN:
A student will be enrolled in the program until he or she is on grade level, graduates or is ready to take the GED test. The appropriate placement will be determined by the Izard County Alternative School Committee consisting of the Alternative Learning Instructor, a regular classroom teacher, the high school principal, the high school counselor, the student and his/her parent. Students who graduate from the program will receive a standard diploma from Izard County High School.
DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES:
All students in the I.C.A.L.S. will be required to follow the Izard County High School Handbook. A student who is a disruptive influence in the school or does not achieve at a satisfactory level may be removed from the program and sent back to the regular school setting.

The program will begin at 8:00 a.m. and run until 3:10 p.m. each day
