ArticulationArticulation is the process by which sounds, syllables, and words are formed when your tongue, jaw, teeth, lips, and palate alter the air stream coming from the vocal folds. An articulation disorder involves omitting, distorting, or substituting speech sounds which causes a listener to have difficulty understanding what is being said. When children are young, many of their errors are considered developmental. This means it is not yet a concern.
All sounds have a developmental sequence. Children should be able to produce the following sounds by these approximate ages: 3 Years: p, m, h, n, w 4 Years: b, d, k, g, f, y 6 Years: ng, l, t 7 Years: ch, sh, j 8 Years: s, z, v, zh, th, r |
